WVMC: Championing Patient Care with AI Technology

When receiving an imaging exam, it can be common for images to show an incidental finding. An incidental finding is when something is discovered on your imaging study that is not related to the reason your doctor ordered the test. With the innovation of artificial intelligence, evidence-based guidelines are used to detect incidental findings in patients, and WVMC is proactive to ensure appropriate follow up occurs. We’ve partnered with Eon to utilize a team of patient coordinators that will be reaching out to providers and patients, as well, making sure they are made aware of these findings.

Currently, WVMC is has implemented this technology for lung cancer screenings, and the incidental findings management of abdominal aortic aneurysms thoracic aneurysms, incidental lung nodules, thyroid nodules, pancreatic cysts, and incidental liver findings. WVMC has been recognized as a Gold Center of Excellence by EON for the effectiveness of their implementation of their system in the Healthy Person Program.

Lung Cancer is the leading cancer killer in both men and women in the US. When cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, when it is not too large and has not spread, is more likely to be treated successfully. Often, cancer can go undetected, or symptoms may not show until a later stage.
